Some back story for this one. So, my friend Nick called me at 6:20 in the morning yesterday, as he had just gotten home from work. This of course, woke me up and I got up to answer it and saw it was him. (I’m prone to missing his calls a lot, so I didn’t want to leave him hanging this time). He wanted to ask me something, and obviously wanted to do so while it was still on his mind, not thinking that I would not be awake at that hour. He wanted to invite me to an anime convention in my home state (I’m out of state, at school right now) which I can’t go to because of school. So he asked me if I wanted him to pick up anything at the convention, but I was so out of it at the time. Before I went back to sleep this image popped in my head, and I had to draw it. I’m not mad, I find this hilarious, really. Drawn partly on a Cintiq (my school has them) but finished with my track pad as my tablet pen in missing. Yeah so, enjoy my crappy doodle.

A small doodle that I made for my mom for Mother’s Day. I wish I’d had time to do more, but I’ve been really busy with school. Anyway, enjoy the silliness that this is! Fridge worthy material right here! Love you, Mom!
Edit: Added a white patch to her (the character) chest, in memory of Sinbad.
Well, I’m just racking up the character art. Now here is a animal I almost never draw (trying to changes this. I need to draw more then cats and dogs). Horses are hard to draw, I know I need a lot more practice. But not bad, considering this image is the only other image of a horse I have posted online and that was 7 years ago. Anyway, this is Watson. He is a Clydesdale horse. I may ink and color this later, when I have time.
Ever since I put together the stuff on character hub, I’ve not be able to get some of my characters out of my head. So in order to free my mind, I draw them. I’ve been drawing characters from “Rocket”. I haven’t drawn these two since completing my Character Design and Layout class. I have a upcoming personal project, that may require me to draw them, so I’d better start practicing. Also wanted to show that animals are not the only subject that I’m interested in drawing, I’m just better at them. I hope to finish these two portraits during a livestream session, possibly on Saturday night.
Character Hub
Okay, so I stumbled across the really awesome website today, called Character Hub. Ever wonder who my characters are? Well, I now have them all in one place!
Please note that I have a ton of characters that fall under the “Desdinova” category, but I do not have artwork of them, so they have not been added yet (well none of the categories are complete by any means but a good portion of my characters fall under just that one). I will be doing updates periodically to the list. I also need to get off my butt and draw the characters that need art.
Want to try it out to? The secret key is “peacock”.
I’ve been drawing canine characters for both my studio classes, so I decided I was going to draw a cat for myself. This is my Siamese cat character, Ace. He a cocky and sarcastic kind of guy. He is extremely street smart and always up to speed on the latest news. He is one of Rocket’s informants and friends. I love this little guy.
So enjoy this really rough drawing with some color and texture slapped on for good measure. Siamese cat are a weakness of mine as far a cats go. Maybe one of these days, I’ll post something that I actually spent some time on.
Wow I’m really cranking this stuff out. Anyway, I’ve been thinking lately about doing a redesign of my logo. I like my current one, but I have a few issues with it. I am by no means a graphic designer, but I had fun doing these. I have not settled on one yet, in fact I looking for some input and critique on them. So please, if anyone has an idea, shoot it my way! I may even make more of them depending on how I feel.
This new logo will not only replace my blog header, but may also become my new watermark (if I still decide to use a image based watermark). The logo will be able to stand alone and be combined with text when needed. I’m even considering having it registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office. (That is why I have watermarked them here)
I’m leaning towards 1 and 3 at the moment. Thanks for looking!
A quick portrait done of my vixen character (she really needs a name). Just exploring style with this. The shading is really lazy. I recorded my process of this, you can find that here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrF24YaDX3g
More development for one of my film concepts and the one I will most likely go with. She will be doing a fire dance, so I can really push the character movement. I’ve looked up rhythmic gymnastics ribbon routines as possible reference for this. She is not really “on model” here, I just threw this together really quick for class. This is more for color and patten exploration, as well as quick gesture poses. More to come later!
Alright, here are some character concepts for my Senior film. I don’t have anything set for a story for ether concept as of yet, these are just rough drawings of characters I’m thinking of using. One concept involves and hyena and a peacock. I’m working from the theme of unusual friendships and looking beyond superficial expectations (based some what on gender). The other concept is about a fire/lava fox spirit. I had a working story going on for this, but I may abandon it, in favor of a different story. Anyway, she is a mystical spirit/guardian who has to uses her power, to help others. I’m think along the lines of inner strength or the creative/destructive power of nature with this one. I just feel so unsure about not having a good solid foundation for ether idea story wise. Any thoughts? If so, please let me know!
